Catra’s problem was that her whole life, Shadow Weaver told her she was worthless, this combined with how much Shadow Weaver fawned over Adora, made Catra feel like she had to prove herself to RIDICULOUSLY high standards. This made it very difficult for her to accept any kind of affection, not only because she never really received it, but because she felt like she didn’t deserve it (for the record, she feels this way even BEFORE Adora left the Horde, so her poor decisions afterwards only compound the situation, because now Catra has to live with those mistakes ON TOP of everything else). Huge props to Adora focusing her anger on the person who deserves it in Season Five, Shadow Weaver kept tearing them apart every chance she got, they’d JUST STARTED repairing their relationship, and then Shadow Weaver forced herself between the two of them AGAIN! Adora said it best to Shadow Weaver, “You RUIN people, you ruin any chance they could EVER be happy!” So glad they both finally got their feeling across… took us a while, but we made it 🥹
